Happy Birthday Nicola!

Today is Nicola's birthday!

You know, when we arrived in Gwangju and they told me that I would have to share a room with someone, I was kind of mad. I mean, I wanted my own room to fling my things around in. However, Nicola and I managed to tolerate each other.... ha, what am I saying? We got on like a house on fire! AND, she let me fling my things around anyway. We talked - constantly - much to the amusement of Mr. Shane (human). And, in just a month, we've already visted each other's respective homes in Korea (Wando and Suncheon). Of course, when she came to Suncheon, she was a total hit with everyone too!

Thanks, Nicola, for making orientation that much more interesting, for your awesome stories, for loaning me books to read.

Best wishes!

  • THANKS!!!!!!!

Today I was escorted to school by a ladybird who took a fancy to me (or maybe to my pink shirt)...it was almost as good a birthday present as being on your blog!

Lots of best wishes for Tuesdays to come!

  • Hi Its Mom happy birthday to Nicola & did you remind her that I had you here for 3 months flinging things around the apartment? Well its really clean now & truthfully I prefer that it was cluttered with all your stuff, but I'm so glad that you are enjoying all that comes your way & friends like Nicola that you bond with on your first days in Korea. Most of my best friends now are the ones I first met in Saudi Arabia over 30 years ago on my orientation. There is something about an expat way of life, perhaps because you don't have the comforts of home or relatives to lean on when special days come along & you end up sharing every tiny little experience with a stranger which understands you better then someone that you grew up with all your life. Does that make sense?

    Love Mom

  • Happy Birthday Nicola... (gee that picture looks familiar..hehe..) Hope you had a great day!

    Virg,
Thanks for the wine last night and downloading those pics... By the way... your mom knows exactly what it's like to be over here doesn't she? It's amazing how many friends I've made over here and how close you get so quickly... It defintely has something to do with the whole sharing experiences while being away from friends and family back home... It totally makes sense Virginia's Mom...
